Ja Morant wows crowd, inspires youth at “Make Them Watch” Global Tour in Manila

MANILA, Philippines — August 1, 2025 — Global basketball superstar Ja Morant brought his electrifying energy to the heart of Hoop Country and showed why he was a true rockstar of the game.

In just one day, Morant fully immersed himself in the Philippines’ basketball and colorful local culture, connecting with fans, interacting with young ballers and inspiring the next generation of athletes about what makes the game of basketball truly special.

The Memphis Grizzlies guard began his day by meeting local hoopers at Nike Fort store, sharing words of encouragement with them. During the day he met other young players eager to learn from one of the sport’s most dynamic figures. On this special Friday, Morant also received a unique and memorable present: a bespoke piece of jewelry, a chain necklace with a pendant studded with vari-colored raw stones. It was  a meaningful gift and a symbol of appreciation that paid tribute to his colorful game.

From the Nike Fort store, Ja rode the iconic HoopJeep, a reimagined local jeepney fitted with a basketball hoop, that made its way toward The Courtyard in Bonifacio Global City.

At The Courtyard, Morant witnessed basketball as Pinoys play it in an exhibition game between the De La Salle Zobel Junior Archers and Team 12, a young squad that represents the passion and pride of barangay basketball. The game showcased a vibrant mix of grassroots and high school-level talent that defines Philippine basketball.

De La Salle alumni Ricci Rivero, Jeron Teng and Marga Jimenez beefed up the DLSZ team while Nike athletes Rhenz Abando, CJ Cansino and Jack Animam bolstered Team 12.

Ja thoroughly enjoyed the moment and the love he got from Filipino fans. He gave love back by showing them two signature dunks and a sampling of the Griddy that further delighted the hyped up crowd.

He concluded his visit by signing Locker #12 at The Courtyard, leaving his own mark at the iconic court and joining the growing list of elite athletes who have left their imprint there. It was a fitting final gesture, honoring both Ja’s jersey number and the lasting impression he left on the local basketball community.
